An important part of any show is the music and it’s no different here at Far Out. We’d like to introduce you to the fantastic artists who have helped to make our pilot show as damn good as it is!
First up is Ryan Helman, who performs the music you can hear on the Far Out trailer, “That’s the Girl I’m After”, which will be available to download from iTunes from 3rd August or you can buy it by texting “thegirl” to 81088. Ryan has also contributed two more tracks to the show, one of which, “Telephone Connection”, you can hear in part one.
Ryan Helman is a solo artist and singer songwriter. His music is in the genre of The Beatles, Squeeze, Elvis Costello, The Four Seasons, The Beach Boys and Chas’n’Dave. He has just finished his latest album, “Strictly Business”, and has now achieved over 28 million hits on his Myspace.com/ryanhelman site. For further info on Ryan Helman, go to www.ryanhelman.com
Colvalis is none other than our very own Alicia Colvin, who as well as playing Claire in Far Out is a vocalist and producer hailing from East London. Born in Bethnal Green amidst a pool of varying cultures, Colvalis has always had an ear for musical experimentation. From attending music school at an early age, Colvalis studied clarinet, piano and guitar.
A flare for poetry prompted Colvalis to start applying her writings to music. In early 2003 she began Jazz vocal tuition with acclaimed Jazz artist Brigitte Bereha and attended jazz jam sessions where Colvalis performed live.
In early 2005, Colvalis took a break from London and embarked on a 2 year expedition around Asia and Australia. Colvalis has an eclectic musical taste. Her primary influence, growing up in East London, was her Mother’s record collection which included Soft Cell, Joe Jackson, David Bowie, Billie Holiday, The Clash and Adam & the Ants. Being of mixed race heritage, Colvalis also integrated herself into the sounds of afrobeat, dancehall, ragga and soul. However, it was Colvalis’ travels through the likes of Tibet, China, Sri Lanka and Cambodia that really sparked her ‘other worldly’ fuse. Listen to more of the music, including “This Trust” which features in part one of the show at http://www.myspace.com/colvalis
Another one of our cast who is also contributing music is Shabsi, who plays Becks. Her group Cinnamon Antics have contributed two tracks to the show, “Gloves” and “Misty Heaven’s Wheel”. Through stitching together genres like British-electro, a dash of new wave and power-pop, Cinnamon Antics are managing to strike a stark contrast with the scene. Stirring in melodies with a splash of synth, Shabsi, Drew and Hugh turn electro human.
Uniquely teamed with four eccentric dancers ‘The Teacups’, so far 2009 has seen Cinnamon Antics play at the Roundhouse alongside Noisettes, Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobious Pip and Kano, and play a mini-tour in Paris; as well as now being able to include Tommy Sparks and The Chapman Family amongst their ever-growing legion of obsessive fans.
Casee Wilson is a Yorkshire based singer-songwriter, whose song “Mary” appears in episode two of the “Far Out” pilot. She started out as a cabaret singer performing covers on the London circuit, but soon found herself wanting to write her own material. She has been writing and recording her own songs for the last four years. She was a child of the 80’s and was the downstairs neighbour of the punk band “Specimen”, which led her to decide, after hearing punky basslines drifting down through the ceiling above, that music was and always would be her first love. Her influences are eclectic, ranging from punk and rock, through pop, to electronica and jazz and she particularly enjoys writing random instrumentals. Song topics have included areas as diverse as kittens, string, zombies and the suspected abnormality of cows on Tim Burton’s farm, if Tim Burton had a farm. Casee has appeared on Radio York, performed at the Theatre Royal, London, and is only two degrees of separation from KT Tunstall, having supported her support act, Jess Gardham, last year.
